Al-Askariya Mosque (aka the Golden, Al-Askari shrine in Sammara, Iraq): One of the three most important Shi'ite mosques, built in 944, destroyed by bombing in Iraq civil war on February 22, 2006. Contains burial shrines of the 10th and 11th Shi'ite Imams (Ali al-Hadi and Hassan al-Askari). Site for the return of 12th, Hidden Imam, al-Mahdi, which will signal the beginning of the end of the world.
